Perhaps a more accurate sign that design was beginning to remember its core values once again could be seen at the Design Week awards, where the winning product wasn't an impossibly angular sofa by Zaha Hadid, or a design-art crossover piece from the V&A's Telling Tales exhibition but a urine collector for women, Peezy, created by GP Vincent Forte. Designed to fit comfortably against the female perineum, it allows the patient to pass urine as normal in a single flow before expelling the first unwanted burst from the bottom of the funnel. Definitely not glamorous nor particularly beautiful but clever and extremely useful instead.
