How Peezy is used
The user removes Peezy from its hygienic pouch and attaches the standand, specimen container. Held by its intergral handle tab, Peezy fits neatly against the body for use while sitting or standing over the toilet bowl. The first few millilitres of urine are discarded, allowing only the midstream to fill the container; excess urine passes straight into the toilet bowl. The user is left with a pure "gold standard" sample plus clean and dry bottle, hands, toilet and floor.
Peezy is then replaced into its pouch and disposed of in the bin, to be incinerated along with standard hospital or clinic waste.
Who invented Peezy?
The Peezy was invented by family GP, Dr Vincent Forte.
In his daily GP surgery, Dr Forte found that regular requests of female patients for a mid-stream urine sample to be delivered into a standard 21mm diameter container elicited a frequent and increasingly familiar response ...: "How do you expect me to pee into that, Doctor? All that stopping and starting! And the mess!"
Peezy is Dr Forte's ingenious response. Not only does it remove embarrassment and improve hygiene, but it also assists in the collection of a "gold-standard", mid-stream urine sample.
Dr Forte's empathy with patients, together with an intricate knowledge and experience of general practice has been fundamental to Peezy’s development and will influence its future applications as well as brand and product development in other areas, some of which are already underway.
Dr Vincent Forte has worked for ten years in forensic medicine and is an established writer; he co-wrote the Symptom Sorter, now used within teaching hospitals throughout the UK and is a regular contributor to print, web and broadcast media.
